Rakesh obtained his PhD from the National Institute of Cholera and Enteric Diseases at the University of Calcutta, studying rotavirus-host interactions. He found that rotavirus relocalizes and repurposes components of the cellular DNA damage response to build viral replication compartments, as well as subverts the nonsense mediated decay pathway to protect viral RNA from destruction. In our lab, he’s interested in applying high throughput screening technologies to discover host factors critical for KSHV replication and gene regulation.
